Community

Find your people

Creativity grows in community. These are the smaller groups inside UVC where that actually happens — on a run, in a writers’ room, in the garden, or across a table with your work in front of you. You do not need to be an expert at any of them. You just need to show up.

Run Club

We run together every Tuesday at 6:45 pm!

Some of the best conversations at UVC happen at a pace slow enough to talk. Open to every level, walkers included.

  • Went on a run with our run club sticker - RUN WITH PURPOSE.

It’s a reminder that we should have purpose in life - what is yours?

“It gets easier. Every day, it gets a little easier. But you gotta do it every day. That’s the hard part.”

-Bojack Horseman

Sometimes what God is telling you is to rest. But sometimes, its to go the extra mile.

  • We run for a lot of reasons. Faith reminds us the purpose of our stride, and putting meaning into our runs.

  • Cloudy days in Pasadena make for some of the best running weather.

This week we ran across the Colorado Street Bridge—also (unfortunately) known as “Suicide Bridge.” A few fun facts:
-Opened in 1913 and was the tallest concrete bridge in the world at the time.
-Restored and earthquake-retrofitted in the early 1990s to preserve its historic beauty.
-It’s been featured in countless movies and TV shows.

We were also treated to a chorus of wild parrots at the end of the run. They usually do keep us company when we finish but today there were more of them…

Thanks to everyone who came out!

And a special shoutout to our co-leader, Alex—we’re wishing you safe travels and all the best on your missions trip!

  • With high temperatures and ongoing smoke impacts from the Boyle Heights warehouse fire, take extra precautions before heading out for a run. Air quality conditions have been changing throughout the Los Angeles area, especially those closest to affected areas.

Before your run:
• Check temperature & AQI
• Run early if possible
• Hydrate before, during, and after
• Slow your pace in the heat
• If you smell smoke or feel dizzy, short of breath, or nauseous, stop and head indoors

Comedy Crew

Writing, testing, bombing, and trying again.

For anyone working in comedy or curious about it: stand-up, sketch, improv, or comedic writing. We workshop material, run open mics at The Blue House, and give each other notes you can only take from people you trust.

Co-working & Board Game Nights

Heads down during the day, board games at night.

Co-working at The Blue House is quiet, unstructured, and genuinely productive — bring a script, an edit, a grant application, or your inbox. Then some evenings we clear the tables, put out the board games, and stay far too late. Same room, two very different energies.

Professional Development Workshops

Skills, craft, and the occasional deep dive.

Workshops, guest sessions, portfolio reviews, and practical conversations about the working side of a creative life. Making the work is only half of it; the other half is building a life that lets you keep making it.
